SINGLES LADDERS

Rules and Match Scores

The Club runs two singles ladders, which are open to all full adult and student members. There is a Women’s ladder and an Open Ladder (open to men and women). The ladder rules and how to enter are explained below:

 Ladder Rules

  • You can challenge players who are up to a maximum of 10 places higher than you on the ladder.

  • The winner moves into the position of the loser only if the loser was placed higher than the winner prior to match.

  • Once a challenge has been set, please enter it on the board in the clubhouse.

  • No other challenge on either participant can be taken on until the match has been cancelled, forfeited, or played and the results entered.

  • The date and time of any match should be mutually convenient for both players. The challengee must respond to a challenge within 3 days after being challenged and a match time and date must be set up for the match to be played within 14 days of the challenge or give a default.

  • Matches are to consist of one standard set to 6 games (normal rules), tie-break at 6 games all to 7 (2 clear points).

  • The losing player must wait 14 days after the completion or default of the match before re-challenging the same player.

  • If any player fails to turn up for an arranged match the other player wins by default.

  • Any player forfeiting twice will automatically drop to the lowest position on the ladder.

  • Any player not playing any match in a 30 day stretch will drop two places on the ladder.

  • It is the winners responsibility to put the match score on the board in the clubhouse and move names on the ladder as appropriate.

  • The challenger is responsible for checking court availability and booking appropriately.

 New Players

  • New players wishing to join either ladder should email ladders@hemingfordstennis.org.uk with their contact details, and which ladder they wish to join.

  • New players who join the ladder will be assigned 1 flying challenge anywhere in the ladder to help ensure that stronger players find their appropriate level sooner.

  • If the new challenger wins the match, they move to their opponents’ position on the ladder while the opponent drops down one place.

 Additional information

  • In order to facilitate contact, you will be added to a Club WhatsApp community

  • Any disputes about challenges not being accepted, forfeited, etc should be emailed to ladders@hemingfordstennis.org.uk and a decision will be made that is final.

  • Any junior wishing to join either ladder should ask their parent to email ladders@hemingfordstennis.org.uk and a decision will be made that is final.
